IMPORTANT: Taking Moodle Educator Certificate will not teach you anything about Moodle. It is a certificate designed for people who already know Moodle, and want to prove that they use it effectively within their courses.
- MEC start dates
MEC start dates
- MEC start dates are: 1st February, 1st April, 1st June, 1st August. You must register well in advance as payment is required before the start date.
The course content is in English. In the future we are hoping to support MEC with facilitators who speak the following languages: English, French, German, Greek, Danish. This means your assignments may be able to be completed in these languages.
- MEC modules
MEC modules
- MEC consists of 6 modules, with two design challenges (practical exercises) in each.
The 6 modules are:
- Assessment strategies
- Align learning objectives and learning activities with appropriate Moodle tools for assessment
- Integrating Moodle
- Focus on innovative ways to use Moodle to reflect on progress and inform future learning
- Facilitating accessibility
- Respond to learners’ diverse needs and ensure accessibility to learning resources and activities
- Creating instruction
- Manage content and teaching interventions to implement activities that reinforce learning objectives
- Gathering feedback
- Track performance to evaluate, assess, and provide feedback to inform future learning
- Collaborative learning
- Enable the exchange of knowledge and resources to foster learner collaboration and peer learning
- Essential information
Essential information
- All content and assessment is 100% online - you can complete the MEC from wherever you are in the world as long as you have a com**r and internet connection.
- The course is asynchronous - there is no requirement to be online at a set time.
- You have an MEC facilitator+assessor assigned to you at the start.
- MEC is not suitable for those who are new to Moodle. You should be an experienced teacher, and have used Moodle for AT LEAST a year or two, and be familiar with the main elements such as all the Activities, using Groups, Gradebook, Communication tools, Resource types.
- Each MEC assignment (one per week for 6 weeks) will take approximately 5 hours each week for you to complete. You must keep up-to-date week by week to be successful.
- MEC process
MEC process
- Our process is for you to take MoodleBites for Teachers before you compete your MEC. This will ensure you have all the gaps in your knowledge addressed before you complete each MEC assessment. This will take 2-3 hours each week, depending on your previous knowledge and experience. (Existing MCCC holders can complete the MEC without taking MoodleBites for Teachers first). During the final two weeks of MoodleBites for Teachers, your assigned MEC facilitator will contact you to prepare you to start MEC.
- Course fee

- Total MEC fee is US$499 to cover all 6 MEC modules (MoodleBites for Teachers pre-requiaite course is provided free) at the start (Badges awarded for each module). Moodle HQ charge a fee for the final MEC Certificate (see below).
- Final Certificate
Final Certificate
- The final MEC Certificate is issued directly by Moodle HQ. This is issued once you have submitted your portfolio of work (design challenges) to Moodle HQ for final verification. The fee for this is US$150-US$215 (subject to confirmation by Moodle HQ) note that this fee is waived during 2019!
