You may also note that I included men as well as women, and even myself, in these criticisms.
You’re quite right to point out my own faults. I admit them freely.
My point was to show that I am as guilty as all the rest. But this is not only about you and me.
Let’s consider the BIG picture.
What I think is happening here is that the culture we live in has changed dramatically in a relatively very short time. Movies, television and the media in general are focused on the lowest common denominator and for a very good financial reason. P.T. Barnum was quoted as saying that you’ll never lose money by appealing to this lowest common denominator of society.
Somehow we’ve become a culture that wants cheap thrills and quick fixes. The old values of honesty, wisdom, blah, blah, blah have become devalued. The internet dating scene, like the bar scene is just another reflection of this lowest common denominator.
So my comment was intended to point out that dating sites work well for certain people. I haven’t tried many, so I was wrong to generalize. E Harmony professes to do a better job of matching people’s personalities. I have no comment on this site.
So let’s both chill out. My intention was not to upset anyone. I merely wanted to point out that it’s the nature of this beast to function much as it does.
